I grew up in Kyle of Lochalsh, in the West Highlands of Scotland. I spent four years studying an honours degree course at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen before moving back to the West Coast. I've now set up a studio/ workshop in Kyleakin, Isle of Skye.
My work centres around printmaking in various media; predominantly etching, relief printing and screenprinting. Working with a variety of surfaces and materials, including hand made paper, I produce constructed, three dimensional pieces which are informed by 'place', but abstract in their outcome.
I tend towards urban environments and translate the built form of a town or city into a constructed artwork. I am interested in shape, colour, surface, pattern, texture and iconography, and I collate these stimuli in the form of photographs which I then take into the studio and work from. Collage forms a strong basis for my image making, which is developed through the medium of fine art print.
